New Ash: CAO La Traviata
Today I’m smoking the new La Traviata from CAO Cigars. I was lucky enough to win one of the many contests CAO’s Director of Lifestyle Marketing Jon Huber posts on his Twitter feed, and received La Traviata Hat and 2 of the cigars as well, which should be arriving at retailers very soon. All 3 vitolas priced at less than $6. I’m smoking the 5″ x 50 Divino.
100th Cigar Review Contest Winner
Last Monday I reviewed the CAO Escaparate Costa Rican Maduro, which is exclusive to Corona Cigar Company, to mark the 100th review here at Nice Tight Ash. In celebration, Corona Cigar generously agreed to donate a box of their Corona Nicaraguan 10th Anniversary cigars.
CAO Escaparate Costa Rican Maduro
This review is number 100 here at Nice Tight Ash. To celebrate, our newest sponsor Corona Cigar Company has agreed to sponsor a contest. So, I’m smoking a Corona Cigar exclusive, the CAO Escaparate Costa Rican Maduro belicoso.
I paired the cigar with some Costa Rican coffee from Black Dog Coffee, talk about our first 9 months of operation, and give details on how to enter the contest.
La Flor Dominicana Habano Corona
Smoking one of La Flor Dominicana‘s “experimental” cigars, the Habano Corona. It features tobacco from their La Canela farm (same as the LG Diez line) and the same wrapper that was used on their Salomon cigar. It’s limited to 700 boxes of 20 cigars, and retails for around $8 a stick.
I paired the cigar with an Oktoberfest from Brooklyn Brewery, and talk about cigar makers throwing a few curveballs with their cigars.
Keeping a Cigar Journal
If you smoke a lot of cigars like I do, or you are just getting into the hobby and want to help yourself learn about cigars and your personal preferences, starting a cigar journal is a great idea. It’s easy to do, relatively cheap, and doesn’t require a lot of work.

Why I Changed My Mind About Cigar Rights of America

On Wednesday, I joined Cigar Rights of America. This was a big departure for me. When CRA was first formed, I looked over the site, read other bloggers’ opinions, and listened to cigar podcasters talk about. And I found myself being unable to join.
Devil’s Weed Raleigh
Today I’m smoking the Devil’s Weed Raleigh, an Ecuadorian Connecticut-wrapped robusto from Molina Cigar. It’s a mild, smooth cigar made in the Dominican Republic.
Pinar Del Rio Habano Sun-Grown
Today’s cigar is a smaller, boutique brand Pinar Del Rio. I’m smoking one of their original offerings, the Habano Sun-Grown. Made in the Dominican Republic by La Fabrica Don Leoncio, it’s a good value at less than $6 a stick for the robusto I smoked.
