I haven't checked in here for some time as I thought it was getting boring, but the last few posts are good quality so I guess I will add you back to my everyday bloglist. You deserve it my friend :)

Nice review. I too, got some of these in a sampler pack at Cigar Bid. I read a few reviews before they came in, and basically everyone slammed them because they're so overpriced. I think a lot of the disparaging remarks were based on the inflated MSRP, though, and not the smoke itself.

So I wasn't expecting much when I fired one up, but was pleasantly surprised. Like you said, it's not great - I'd choose a Rocky Patel Sungrown over a 1666 Pirate any day. But it does have some nice complexities. I also experienced the initial kick of spice/pepper out the gate, which faded to complex flavors after that. Notably missing was the common earthy/dirt/peat flavor that a lot of cigars have in the middle (and one that I don't care for). I even picked up some sweet flavors, like raisin and cinnamon, in the middle.

Overall, it's a good smoke. I haven't aged them, but my 5-pack did sit in the humi for about a month before I smoked them all. I kind of had to be in the mood for them. But since then, I've found myself wishing I had a few more of the 1666 Pirates in my humi, just for a change of pace. Like you said, they're pretty good cigars for $3.50 a stick, but yeah I wouldn't pay $15 for one. I think that's an inflated price so they can advertise those bundles as "MSRP $150, but you pay only $40!" If you can look past the marketing cheesiness, they're well worth a try.

Thanks for the review, I have never had the desire to smoke Graycliff cigars in general mostly due to their price point and that I have never gotten a good recommendation for them. So I guess thanks for taking one for the team!

I also got some of these from samplers and also agree with you that some aging make a difference, much more enjoyable after some time in the humi. I think I have one left.

I've smoked this stick before and was not impressed with it. Since this isn't made in the Graycliff factory in the Bahamas it doesn't have the same flavors. I don't smoke regular Graycliffs all that often because of the price, but I won't buy another one of these.

I'll have one before long the way I've been hitting the online auctions here lately. Warmer getting them from the ups man than getting out to the shop.

I've read some descriptions on the Graycliff cigar that they were not interesting enough for me to buy them. It is back me away from buy the Graycliff brand. As I watched your review of the cigar that my reactions were: first, it is too expensive for me. Second, I cannot waited for two years to smoke the cigar. Third, There were no years of aging on the wrapper, binder and filler tobacco or the cigar is itself. Thanks, It was another good review....
