Graycliff Hotel 2010 Halloween Package

An 18th century buccaneer still searches for the Captain who took him prisoner

Nassau, Bahamas (September 30, 2010) Every old estate and castle has a story of intrigue and mayhem, and Graycliff, the 18th-century mansion which is the centerpiece of the fabled 5-Star Graycliff Hotel and Restaurant, is no exception.  By all accounts, the Graycliff wraith is focused on finding his tormentor and bringing him to justice, pirate-style.  It is supposed to be the spirit of a seaman, captured by Captain Graysmith, the notorious pirate who retired with his riches and built the mansion on a hill.  Graysmith needed the hilltop site to afford him a full view of the harbor so that he could inspect his fleet from the comfort of his opulent surroundings.  Retired though he was, the pirate in him would brook no confrontation and he ruled his fleet with an iron hand.

The legend of the prisoner in the galleon was widespread, but only quietly whispered so as not to reach the ears of the feared Captain.  It is said that a seaman challenged Graysmith on his share of a bounty and in a rage, the Captain had him thrown into the brig of his flagship.  The prisoner was only known as The Voice.  No one saw him after he was locked up and only his jailer heard him speak and clank of his shackles.  The Voice stayed in there until a fearsome storm took the great galleon to its watery grave at the bottom of the Spanish Sea (as the Caribbean Sea was known long ago).

Today, The Voice roams the perimeter of the mansion, sometimes knocking on doors, looking for his cruel captor.  If you hear a moaning and a knocking, it might be the wind in the willows… or it might just be The Voice on his determined search starting in the cellar and making his rounds.  Come check it out.  You might get lucky!

Special Halloween treats await you if you want to catch sight of The Voice, book a Special Halloween Weekend package.  Starting at US$810.00 per person in a Deluxe Room, based on double occupancy, Graycliff Hotel=s Halloween Weekend Package includes:

About Graycliff

Graycliff, once a wealthy pirate’s personal retreat, is now the centerpiece of the luxurious resort created by Enrico and Anna Maria Garzaroli. Working diligently over almost four decades, the couple has shaped Graycliff into a 5-star destination listed on the historical register in the Bahamas.

Garzaroli, passionate about wines, carefully built up a collection of fine and rare wines, cognacs and armagnacs to complement the award-winning cuisine at Graycliff Restaurant. His cellar houses one of the world’s greatest collections, winning Wine Spectator’s Grand Award since 1988.

Unable to find that perfect cigar to enjoy with the fine wine and cuisine at Graycliff Restaurant, Garzaroli created the Graycliff Cigar Company in 1997.  The Company started with a single roller in the restaurant, and today produces four world-renowned cigar brands hand-rolled from the finest tobaccos in the world.

The home of relaxed elegance, Graycliff is luxury.
