Pre-light
Before I get into the details, I must first comment that I personally feel like this is a beautiful and rugged cigar. Â The veiny dark chocolate oscuro wrappers is oily and toothy to the touch. Â There were no firm or soft spots in any of the samples I smoked for the purpose of this review. Â I snipped the cap with my Palio cutter and took a couple easy pre-light draws. Â A woody and leathery flavor dominated the pre-light taste and the aroma of the cigar reminded me of spanish cedar.
First Third
I set fire to the samples with my Xikar Executive torch and took my initial puffs on the cigar that yielded a full on assault of flavors. Â I noticed flavor components such as wood, dark roasted coffee, nuts and hints of leather. Â The cigars all had near perfect draws and produced a lot of thick white smoke. Â The ash was stone white and seems to be strong not flaky.
  Â
Second Third
As I made my way through the cigar I began to notice a slight black pepper spice while retrohaling the cigar. Â I was still able to taste the previously mentioned flavor components, however, the nutty and woody notes in the cigar really jumped out to be the dominating flavors. Â The first ash fell off approximately 1 1/2 inches in but the ash is still not flaky.
Last Third
The final third of this cigar didn’t bring any surprises. Â The nuttiness remained upfront while the dark roasted coffee flavors increased. Â The smoke was creamy and coated my mouth. Â The burn line was not razor straight, however I never experienced any tunneling or canoeing in the burn. Â These cigars were exceptionally crafted by Drew Estate’s top torcedors, and the proof is in the smoke. Â I smoked these cigars down to the nub, and found every puff to be enjoyable.
Final Thoughts
I have to be completely honest about the Liga Privada No.9, it is one of my top three cigars, if not my favorite. Â I’ve smoked my way through about 2 boxes in the past year, and look forward to buying more. Â The cigar is medium to full-bodied and always leaves me feeling relaxed and fulfilled after smoking. Â The burn, while not razor straight, never required touch ups and the ash didn’t leave a mess on the front of my shirt. Â The flavors are rich and complex, the room aroma is intoxicating and the smoke floated wispily through the room like a spirit. Â I would recommend this cigar as a must try for any cigar enthusiast. Â Although the cigar is medium to full-bodied, it’s not harsh on the palette. Â If you are interested in trying this cigar please visit Drew Estate’s website to find an appointed merchant near you.
