“Smoked Up” No.18

Another week has gone by and another issue of “Smoked Up” is here. Tried a new cigar size of a cigar I already like this week. I am trying to branch out from my “usual” cigar sizes and try a few new sizes here and there. Basically, I am trying to see if there is another size of a cigar that I may like more than the usual size I smoke. No events or anything of that nature to tell you about. But there is a Jonathan Drew & Will Herrera event coming up in a few weeks I will be attending. So be on the look out for a small story of that event in two weeks or so.

I am doing a week long “product testing” review of The Cigar Clip. I am putting it through its paces finding its pros and cons. Look for this review out towards the end of the week.

SAMSUNGRock-A-Feller Habano Torpedo: I usually smoke a lot of the short pyramid size and its a pretty good smoke at a decent price. But I am branching out to see how the other vitolas are. The torpedo has some nice coffee, wood, with a decent bit of a pepper undertone. Had a great burn, draw and produced 2″+ nice tight ashes. Going to smoke the other sizes to see which one I like most. This one seemed to be a tad bit more peppery than the short pyramid. But this one is pretty tasty and worth a try. Also looking forward to trying the Connecticut line of this blend. I suppose it will be somewhat lighter bodied, but I’ll have to find that out soon.

LFDLa Flor Dominicana “Unreleased” I got this 5pk via a drawing at an LFD event I attended around St. Patrick’s day. This is very close to being my favorite LFD cigar! There are flavors very typical to your run of the mill LFD, but something extra to it. I can’t put my finger on it, maybe its the size, maybe its something in the blend. I’m uncertain of what it is, but I am really digging this cigar lately. I didn’t pay a whole of attention to any distinct flavors, but in the end its one of my top five LFD cigars I’ve had. Definitely a cigar to seek out if you like LFDs.

SAMSUNGAlec Bradley Maxx Culture: A nice & woody cigar that had some light chocolate tones with a hint of salt on the finish. During the latter portions of the cigar, the chocolate type of flavors got somewhat chalky and more of a powdered cocoa flavor. Nothing too fancy with this cigar, but not a bland one either. Had a milkshake thick draw with a dead on burn. The 54rg of the Culture is the biggest I like to smoke. but would like to try this blend in a smaller rg. Over all, just a decent smoke to pass the time with. I still prefer the Brazil line of the Maxx more than anything so far.

SAMSUNGIllusione Holy Lance Maduro (2nd run):The original HL Maduro is one of my favorite cigars of all time. I have a few of those still around for “special occasions”. But I also keep a few of the second runs in the humidor as well. The 2nd run HL maduro, to me, is good, just not as good as the first production run. I like Illusione cigars in small ring gauges with the natural wrapper. But I really enjoy any size Illusione in a maduro wrapper. From HL Maduro to Ultra, it doesn’t matter what size or shape, if its a maduro Illusione I like it and will choose it over any natural line.
