“Smoked Up” No.66
Getting back the somewhat usual smoking routine this past week. I enjoyed a few more cigars and didn’t have to help my buddy move (again) this past weekend. I had planned to take the family to an Easter event, but the Misses’ hip was bothering her and there was no sense in aggravating it anymore by doing a whole lot of walking. So I spend some time with them out in the carport. The weather was great, but the ground was saturated enough to stay off it. Afterwards, I went with a good buddy to the local ‘shop and enjoyed a few smokes and some college baseball on tv.
Cigar Views
601 Green (Oscuro) Robusto: This is maybe my second ever 601 Green and I don’t know why. I always figured it to be very full bodied, but its a good solid medium strength smoke. Had a tad bit thicker draw than what I typically like, yet it was manageable. Had nice chalky, yet smooth, cocoa notes as well as a light white pepper note in the background of the smoke. Â
The Griffin’s 300 Tubo: I haven’t had one of these cigars in quite a few years. It was a nice mild & mellow start to my Saturday with a cup of coffee. Light creamy, woody, light black pepper notes danced around on my palate. For the money, its a good smoke, possibly a little over priced, but an economical smoke for someone who likes Davidoff flavor style, but is on a budget.
Perdomo Habano Corojo Torpedo: This is one of those cigars that I have always liked. Even with my flavor profile liking changes, I have always like it. A great draw and overall a pretty well made cigar. Had smooth light wood notes, nice hints of black pepper with a nice amount of a creamy vanilla note as well. For about $8, this is a smoke that has never failed me. I haven’t had the maduro yet, but will keep it on the radar to try as I am on a mission to broaden my cigar tastings this year.
Don Lino San Andres Habano Robusto: Had a horribly tight draw that constricted the flavors immensely. Did get some grassy notes with a hint of muted cocoa that got quite chalky in the last half of the smoke. This didn’t taste anything like your “typical” San Andres wrapper cigar. Would have been a good bit better if the draw was a lot looser. I will try this cigar to see if I get a better draw & flavor combo. Maybe its a “diamond in the rough. But for $3.50 I didn’t & won’t expect much.
Davidoff No.2: My Sunday Davidoff last week was the No.2. Its like a shorter, yet a tad bit thicker lancero and I really enjoyed the size. Very smooth and mild flavors of cream, faint wood and hints of black pepper and vanilla. There was even a slight citrus zest on the tip of my tongue on the aftertaste that amused my sensed some. Had a great draw and burn that was way better than any lancero I have had recently.
Drew Estate Liga Privad Unico Serie Feral Flying Pig: For about $16, this cigar should have wowed me and mown my lawn! But in all actuality it didn’t. It was a bit better than the Feral Pig, but not by much. I didn’t care for the Feral Pig nor the Feral Flying Pig. The flavors were chalky and malty to me and didn’t appeal to my tastes much at all. Had a great burn, draw and produced a ton of smoke; but that didn’t help the flavors. To be quite honest, I would have rather had two Tabak Especials for the same price as this cigar was. But to each their own, I have heard a lot of people liking this cigar.
