Avalon Juke Series

Today I’m firing up the Avalon Juke Series Red Lancero. I’ve been wanting to try an Avalon cigar for a while, but never found them in any of the shops that I’ve visited. That is until a few weeks ago when I found them in a relatively new shop outside of Annapolis, MD.

The lancero appeared to be constructed well and had an intense barnyard aroma. The wrapper had a few small veins and was a light to medium shade of brown. A pre-light draw yielded a light hay flavor an nice spice note on the tip of my tongue and lips.

Name: Juke Series Red
Company: Avalon
Made in: Esteli, Nicaragua
Wrapper: Pennsylvania Broadleaf Maduro
Binder: Honduran
Filler: Habano Rosado
Price: $5.30 per stick
Comes in: Boxes of 20
Vitola: Lancero (7″ X 38)

I’m really crying the blues after dropping that stick on the ground and cracking the wrapper the way I did. But despite that issue, The cigar really performed well. The Juke Red wasn’t a phenomenal cigar, but the flavors were enjoyable and mildly complex. I’d say this cigar is medium body but is relatively full of flavor. I’m definitely looking forward to trying more Avalon cigars.

Ha! Crazy band.
Always loved pigtails; always loved Rosado. Never seen this partickler lancero.

Cinnamon & coffee are always great… great price point.

Thanks!

My two favorite things, bourbon and cigars.Sounds like a good smoke might give it a try.

I’ve always wanted to try a lancero, but they are one of the harder to find vitolas. They seem to be gaining in popularity though.

Is this another new company or just an obscure one? Never heard of Avalon cigars. As always, I will try anything twice…but I have to get my hands on it first!

Sounds like a decent cigar. I will have to see if I can find them. I believe my one store in Lancaster had at least one Avalon stick on the shelf but I can’t remember off the top of my head.

Thanks for the review, Chris. I’ve enjoyed the few lanceros I’ve tried (Nestor Miranda Special Selection, Oliva Serie V). I’ll have to give the Avalon a try.

Thanks for the review Chris!

I’ve tried the red, not the lancero before. I wasn’t that impressed with it though.

Great review Chris, sounds like a cigar I must try. I haven’t seen them locally unfortunately. I will do a search online see if I can find them. Thanks for the review and keep on smoking.

where is there a spot outside annapolis?

Well, thanks for the introduction to the new cigar. These definitely sound like something I should try. Bummer that you dropped the cigar!

Nice job Chris, I’ll try to find this one, never heard of ”Avalon” before, hope I find it.

Ever since it appeared in the Apr. CA, I’ve been meaning to try this line and in particular the lancero. Thanks for the review!

[…] Avalon Juke – Nice Tight Ash […]

A great review, I wants to try Avalon Juke Series Red Lancero size. I’ve smoked Avalon Juke Series Blue label cigar. It was a mediun strength. It was a weak in the favors. It was not a smooth cigar… Thanks…Chris…

Matt, the spot is Chesapeake Cigar in Edgewater.

Thanks Chris – I’m going to check them out. Its the last good shop in the Baltimore-Metro area I haven’t checked out. It seems like they’ve got a good selection.
