EP Carrillo New Wave Connecticut Short Run 2012 Reinados

The New Wave Connecticut was released last year and garnered many accolades from us cigar bloggers. It was hard not to find it on many of our Top Cigars of the Year list, including mine. A very flavorful, medium bodied Connecticut, was a huge hit. Now, EP Carrillo released this years Short Run in the New Wave Connecticut. The Short Run 2012 uses the Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper of the New Wave Connecticut with a Connecticut Broadleaf binder along with Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers from the Core Line maduro. I’ve been a really big fan of the cigars that EP Carrillo has put out after the Inaugral Edition 2009, which I didn’t care for at all. This cigar was no different. Starting out with a mild body and later developing into a medium bodied cigar, the cigar had notes of wood, sweet spice, honey, cocoa and the great creaminess of the New Wave Connecticut. The smaller ring gauges had a more concentrated flavor and more fuller body, but the larger Reinados was smoother than the rest. Another great cigar from EP Carrillo.

Thanks to EP Carrillo for sending me a sampler pack of these cigars for review.

I’m really looking forward to these. The NWC was my favorite new cigar of last year, and the Maduro wasn’t far behind. I’m not usually a large ring gauge fan, but because the Dark Ritual was so good, I’ll be giving these big fellas a chance.

I agree 100%. I was fortunate to receive these also and they are incredible. This and the original New Wave made me want to smoke Connies again.

I think the smaller ring gauges were better, but if you liked the NWC and the Maduro lines, then you’ll love this one. It brings the best of both worlds into one cigar.

Ben, this sounds awesome you should revist the 2009 innaugeral edition because it picked up some great flavors with age! I agree with you that it was mild in the begining and it still is, but with age it got this great citrus flavor that I just lover right now. Finishing off a box as we speak!

I really liked these cigars and actually place them in my top 5 but I thought the Exquisitos was a much better overall tasting cigar. I found the Reinados bland in comparison. Don’t get me wrong I like them both but the smaller one was just full of flavor.
