In 2008 Illusione released the limited edition ECCJ to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the European Cigar Cult Journal. This cigar was pretty popular, but like all limited edition cigars they are nearly impossible to find these days. So in 2009 Dion Giolito released the Epernay, which is based upon the ECCJ blend. The Epernay, which is named after the famed grape growing region in France named Champagne, is available in cabinets of 50 and five vitolas.
Overall, construction on this Epernay was flawless, especially when taking a good look at the cuban triple cap. The wrapper was a medium shade of brown with a slightly reddish hue. Pre-light aroma was light tobacco. A quick cut revealed an effortless draw a mesh of cedar and nut flavors.
The Epernay was created to appeal more to the european market, so let’s see how it goes for me.
Made in: Nicaragua
Wrapper: Cafe Rosado
Filler: Blend of Nicaraguan Criollo and Corojo
Comes in: Cabinets of 50
Vitola: Le Elegance (5 3/4″ X 40)
If you watched the entire video I don’t think there is any question that I really enjoyed this cigar. The combination of superior construction and mouth watering flavors make the Epernay Le Elegance worth every penny of it’s $8.00 price tag. A cabinet of 50 might not fit into everyones budget, so a couple five packs are highly recommended. However, a box purchase would not be out of the question if you have the bones to throw down it.
