Omar Ortez Puro Maduro

Today I’m reviewing the Omar Ortez Puro Maduro. I’d never smoked one of these cigars until two months ago when the box caught my attention at a local Tinder Box. The combination of a 60 count box and a band that wrapped around the foot of my cigar perked my attention, so I figured it would be with the $4.00 to give these cigars a try.

Name: Omar Ortez Puro Maduro
Company: Altadis USA
Wrapper: San Andres Marron
Binder: San Andres
Filler: San Andres
Price: ~$4.00
Comes in: Box of 60
Vitola: Short Belicoso (4″ x 62)

Final Thoughts

I’m not a fan of this cigar at all. All the samples I smoked demonstrated burn issues and the flavors left much to be desired. I love coffee, but the day old bitter coffee flavor that dominated this cigar was off putting and disguised any more appealing characteristics this cigar had. I can’t really suggest trying this cigar, however, I would hope that some extensive aging would help to minimize the harshness created by the overpowering bitterness.

As always I’d like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for the review Chris. A Mexican puro, that’s a no no for me. Reminds me of Te-Amo (had two in my lifetime…the reg line and the World Series Nicaraguan Blend Gran Corto size which was the worst cigar ever for me) cigars which I despise. Keep on smoking.

Well done! I think this is maybe the 2nd or 3rd cigar review I’ve EVER read that tells the truth about not liking a cigar! I’ve not liked Mexican puros myself, either, so I’m not surprised. Congrats for having the cajones to say it!
