“Smoked Up” No.71
Although the official first day of summer is a few weeks away, it sure has me fooled. Every day this past week its hit high 80s everyday. Then there was a weekend with off an on showers which really helped with the humidity. Not much going on locally, I went to a “Meet and Greet” event with an independent sales rep. He represented Nat Sherman, Quesada and Aging Room Cigars. Not a big get together, just getting the word out on the new lines in the shop, a few deals and beverages. And this time, I held onto my craft beer as I didn’t want another one sprouting legs and walking off.
Cigar Views
Oliva G Robusto: This is a cigar I used to smoke a lot of when I first started enjoying cigars. Then I would put my friends onto them when they got interested in cigars also. I haven’t had one in a while and this was a nice treat for me. Great notes of a semi-sweet chocolate, some leather and coffee as well as hints of black pepper. Had a great draw and burn considering it was a hard box pressed shape. For about $5-6 this is a great every day smoke that I would consider a staple in ones humidor.  Â
Room 101 Honduran Corona: I have had the Papi Chulo of this blend and really wasn’t all that impressed with it. I figured I would try the larger corona size and see how that went. It was a tad bit better than the Papi Chulo, but still not good enough to me. Had a great draw and burn with “ok” flavors. Maybe its because there aren’t enough Honduran cigars in the market these days and I am not too familiar with them. Had musty flavors of a slightly sweet floral spice, a hint of a cocoa and a few other flavors I couldn’t distinguish. I think I will try this in the largest size available in this blend next.
The Crowned Heads Las Cavaleras: Every one of the three lines that The Crowned Heads has came out with has been a hit. If I am not mistaken, they all have been rolled by Torano, but this newest blend was made by My Father Cigars. Hearing of this combo, I had to give this cigar a shot. At a bit over $10, it was kind of hard to swallow, but it was well worth it. This was a great smoke that was totally different than any other Crowned Heads I have had. Think of a mix with a Le Bijou 1922 and the Headley Grange. Had some nice potent spice (that was mellowed off via my Yeti Espresso Imperial Stout beer), as well as some darker notes. Didn’t pay too much attention to many key notes as I was enjoying it at the shop with some friends. I will tell you this, I will definitely be buying more of these soon.
Iconic Leaf Draconian Sidewinder #2: This is one tasty smoke that pleases my taste buds everytime. Nice notes of red pepper, earth, leather etc.. Had great construction with no other issues. This cigar was a little too short for my needs this night as it left me wanting more. So, I think a few toro or largersSidewinders will be on my “gotta-get” list.
