“Smoked Up” No.75

My short vacation ended this past Monday and I was about to go stir crazy. It was almost too hot to do any of the outdoor projects I had planned to do. But I did get a repair on my truck done that was way over due. I wanted to relax in the pool all day, but was told not to submerge my new tattoo  for a few weeks, but I am counting the days to when I can. I didn’t even cut the grass on my vacation; that will give the neighbor something to grumble about.

As I mentioned in the last issue, Wednesday was my birthday and I sat around drinking cold beer, smoked a few cigars and relaxed. Was wanting to go off with the family, but my girlfriend couldn’t get off work. So I made the best of it. I did make a beer run this past weekend for some craft beers that I can’t get locally. I kept my selection to a minimum as I am planning a family vacation this fall.

Cigar Views

 Matilde Renacer Corona

Matilde Renacer Corona: Jose Seijas is back in the business with his new Matilde line of cigars. I was suggested to try them from the owner of my local Tinderbox and was quite surprised with it. The smoke was a bit more bolder than I had figured it would be. There was a nice sweet coffee note with accompanying notes of leather and a bit of oak as well. The construction was good except for my botched toasting that lead to an off burn. Overall a pretty tasty cigar that wasn’t too complex or busy, but did have a few flavor changes with good construction.

Leccia Luchador El Hombre

Leccia Luchador El Hombre: A Local Tinderbox started carrying Leccia Tobacco’s cigars and what is even better is that they had a buy two get one free deal going last week. I got three of the El Hombres as I really liked it the first time I had one. This time the draw was a bit thicker than before, but still had the great flavors that I remembered from the first one I had a few weeks ago. Dark, rich flavors of nutmeg, good amount of black pepper with some sweetness here and there in the mix. I also got some coffee notes that really peaked my enthusiasm for the cigar. Great cigar, only wish the draw would have been a lot better.

Punch London Club Maduro

Punch London Club Maduro: I have always liked just basic line from Punch. From the small to larger ring gauges, they never really let me down. A local shop had a box of these on the shelf and I grabbed one as its been a good while since I had a London Club in the maduro. This was a no-thrills cigar, but a solid smoke that I enjoyed a good bit. Its nice to go back to the “basic” cigars that got me into enjoying cigars. For a box of 25, these aren’t but $50. That’s a heck of a deal! $2 for a every day smoke…. SOLD!

 AJ Fernandez Fallen Angel Torpedo

AJ Fernandez Fallen Angel Torpedo: This cigar was recommended to me by one of my good buddies. He had tried the robusto size a few weeks ago and enjoyed it, so I figured why not? The torpedo had flavors that reminded me of a Fuente Short Story, yet in a bolder fuller profile. A pretty good smoke that I thought would be a bit more complex and slightly fuller than it was. It wasn’t disappointing by any means, I just had a bit more higher hopes for it.
