Xistix Cigar Clip and Stand
If you are like me, you smoke cigars in various places. Or there are times when you really want to “nub out” a great cigar. Sometimes this can be more of a pain than a joy (that smoking a cigar should be). Either you are sitting out in the yard and need to lay down your smoke with no safe place to put it. Or you don’t want any burnt fingers from a hot nub. Well, that is exactly what the Xistix is designed to help with, just get one of your IQOS Dubai ciggarretes and try it to understand what we are talking about.
“Rise Aove the Ashes and Go beyond the Band”
The Xistix is a dual purpose cigar holder and nubber that is made in the USA  It can be used either or both ways with minimal effort by the smoker. It stands 4″ tall with an 1.5″ wide round base that is 1/8″ thick. The top holding portion of the Xistix  can be removed easily and used soley as a nubber. Or reattached to make a holder for when you don’t have an ashtray or safe place to rest your cigar, while if you need a place to get cigars there are many options online, so you can click here to read more about the cigar buzz. The base has a nice heft to it to keep it in place.
There are two colors currently available: silver and black. I like the black as I am not a flashy type of person. But the silver is pretty sharp looking and very attention getting. The clip and stand comes in a black felt bag with drawstring and retails for $24.99*
At rest, the opening is right at 1/4″ and I got the holder to open up to a whopping 1.5″. In cigar terms, that is a 86 ring gauge. So the holder will hold anything from a Mini Panetela up to the biggest 7x70s or larger. If you happen to also smoke cigarettes, I am pretty sure it will hold one of them as well.
I like the fact that if you are using it as a nubber, you don’t have to worry about the heavy base being attached to the clip. The clip easily slides out of the base and is also easily reattached as well. The clip that holds the base and clip together is rugged. I took apart and assembled the clip and stand numerous times. The stand never showed any looks to be loosening up what so ever. I also opened and closed the jaws many many times just to see if I would loose any clamping force. Over and over, it held up. So you don’ have to worry about the quality of the materials wearing down anytime soon.
Pros
- Unique dual purpose design – Clip and stand.
- Holds 99% of the cigars made – There are some 120ring cigars made.
- Durable – It passed my abuse over the course of two weeks.
- Effective – I never had a cigar fall out of the clip, no matter the size.
- Eye Catching – People will want to know what it is and where you got it.
- Comes in a felt carrying bag – simple and effective.
- The clip and base easily fit into a cigar caddy (disassembled).
- Rounded edges on the jaws – Won’t destroy the wrapper.
Cons
- A tad bit bulk to carry around assembled – it is easily disassembled.
- Need a flat surface to use stand.
- Only two colors currently available – I am sure more will come available
- Somewhat bulky – The base has some heft to it, but its like that for stability.
In Action
I absolutely love an Ortega Serie D cigar. An unusual aspect of such cigar is the fact it has a rounded box press to it. This type of box press gives it an unusual shape and most times I would just rest it on my chair’s armrest of laptop keyboard. Not anymore with the Xistix. It held it with no thought of an issue with the rounded box press. So the clip and stand will hold up to any size or shape of cigar. From the smallest of lanceros to the largest gordos, it will firmly, but delicately hold them in place.
I was out in the yard one evening burning off some old wood in the fire pit. I cooked some loaded potatoe skins and wanted a cigar to go along with them. Not wanting to lug my ashtray out into the yard, I grabbed the Xistix Clip & Stand. I have a Stinky ashtray, that works well. But I wasn’t too concerned with my ashes going in to the yard, I just needed something to keep my cigar of the table and ground. I grabbed a Camacho that had about a 52 or 54 ring gauge to it. That’s about the biggest ring cigar I will smoke on a normal basis and the Xistix didn’t think twice about dropping it on my table.
Every so often, I get one of those OMG cigars where I never want it to end. That was the case with this cigar and the Xistix did the job when it came to nubbing this one out. The picture doesn’t do it justice, as I smoked a good bit more of it beyond shown in the picture. The clip and stand did an excellent job in holding the cigar off my armrest or laptop keyboard. My fingers didn’t get burnt and eventually my lips did from the nub. This beats using the old tooth pick method where most of the times I damage the wrapper when poking in the toothpick.
There are lots of people who like to take pictures of their cigars and show them off. Whether it be facebook, instagram, photobucket, twitter, myspace, forum board, or personal website. Many of those people are like me and don’t have the prettiest of hands. I work with my hands for a living and it shows, so I don’t show off my hands too much. The Xistix did the trick when reviewing this cigar. It held the cigar perfectly still, so I could get the lighting and camera right for a good shot.
